20-September-2008 09:29:04 - Bawdsey Bawdsey is a village in Suffolk, England near Felixstowe, within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB. Saint Mary's Church, Bawdsey Saint Mary's Church, Bawdsey Bawdsey Manor grid reference TM334378 is notable as the place where radar research took place early in World War II, before moving to Worth Matravers, which is four miles to the west of Swanage, in May 1940, and from there to Malvern, Worcestershire in 1942. The World War Two defences constructed around Bawdsey Point have been documented. They included a number of pillboxes, landmines and flame fougasse installations. The beaches were protected with extensive barriers of scafolding.1 Bawdsey has currently been fighting against the sea as a cause of erosion.
